The Versatile Alpinist Watch

Today we won't talk about Rolex, but rather introduce a handsome "Alpinist". Japan is mountainous, and people live alongside the mountains or enjoy hiking and leisure in their spare time. In 1961, Seiko launched a reliable timepiece for mountaineers named the "Laurel Alpinist," marking the beginning of the Alpinist family history. In fact, this was also Seiko's first attempt to develop a sports watch, (iwc portuguese fake)highlighting its significant historical status.

Nearly half a century later, the fifth-generation Alpinist finally gained widespread popularity, namely the SARB series: SARB013, SARB015, and SARB017. The numbers represent the dial colors, with the green-dial 017 being the most popular and the protagonist of this article.

Appearance

The lake-green dial changes color under strong light, and its sunburst pattern shifts with the angle. It features a strong vintage vibe with alternating gold Arabic numerals and sharp triangular markers, paired with "cathedral" hands. The outermost ring is a compass, which is operated via the crown at the 4 o'clock position. The case resembles a vintage Oyster with polished sides and elegant, charming lines. The case back is engraved with the Alpinist logo and lettering, much like a family crest.

Performance

It is powered by the 23-jewel 6R15 automatic mechanical movement with approximately 50 hours of power reserve, offering excellent winding and shock-resistant performance. The screw-down case back and crown provide a water resistance depth of 200 meters.

Wearing Experience

The 38mm case diameter is relatively small, making it comfortable to wear. However, due to the crown guards and the 4 o'clock compass crown, it wears larger in effect. Furthermore, its playability is exceptionally high, capable of accommodating various straps, and it has long been a popular watch model on Instagram. The author prefers Perlon braided straps and Jubilee bracelets; the former is unisex, while the latter adds a touch of luxury. With its appearance and size suitable for both business and leisure, a rugged and durable 6R15 movement, and 20Bar water resistance fearless of moisture, it is dubbed "capable of both formal and casual wear" (neng wen neng wu), representing an affordable watch model rich in craftsmanship and storytelling. It's just a pity that the SARB017 is now discontinued, and the Alpinist family has henceforth lost a handsome prince.

The Seiko SARB017 is hailed as a classic, versatile "Alpinist" watch. It boasts a highly recognizable lake-green sunburst dial, vintage cathedral hands, and an internal compass bezel, combining 200-meter water resistance with the rugged and durable 6R15 automatic mechanical movement. (ap imitation)This watch possesses the functional attributes of a professional outdoor watch while perfectly balancing the all-match style of daily formal wear and business casual. It is a quintessential model of affordable watches that combines craftsmanship, history, and ultra-high playability. If you like it, don't miss out!
